"This painting was very special for me to paint. I have a dear friend whom I met on Twitter, called Liz McGlynn. She very kindly sent me a signed copy of a book that she’d written telling of horrific abuse that she’d suffered as a child at the hands of her Father. I had already ordered her book for myself, so I kept her signed copy and sent the other to a friend.

A very difficult book to read, but it affected me so deeply that I felt compelled to paint something to raise money for children in similar situations.

I contacted Calum Best, asking if there was a charity specifically to help children of alcoholics and he told me that he had recently become a patron of NACOA. The subject of the portrait was an easy choice.
